Backup My AI Chat

Comparison

AI chat exporter extensions compared

Ten browser extensions that export or back up AI conversations, side by side. We make Backup My AI Chat, one of the ten, so read this as a maker's comparison: every figure about another product comes from its own store listing or website, is linked, and was read on 6 October 2026.

Five things that differ

1. Where the PDF is made

Four of the tools here say they send the conversation to their own server to build the PDF and delete it afterwards. That is a reasonable design, but it means your chat leaves your computer. Backup My AI Chat builds every format in your browser.

2. What the free plan really includes

Most free plans are metered: three PDFs a day is the common figure, and two tools keep file downloads or Markdown for paying users. If you export often, check the limit before you choose. Backup My AI Chat has no paid plan: every feature on this site is free.

3. Whether you need an account

Several tools need a sign-in, at least for their paid plans. Backup My AI Chat has no accounts at all; it uses the AI sign-ins already open in your browser.

4. Export on request, or a backup that keeps itself up to date

Exporting is something you remember to do. A backup happens whether you remember or not. Chat Memo and AI Toolbox keep an automatic copy inside the browser. XWX keeps one as files, through a paid desktop app. Backup My AI Chat writes one Markdown file per conversation into a folder you choose, on a schedule, from the extension alone.

5. Which AI services are covered

AI Exporter, XWX and YourAIScroll each list more services than Backup My AI Chat does. If you rely on NotebookLM, Poe, Mistral or one of the Chinese-language assistants, one of them will suit you better.

Each extension in brief

ChatGPT Exporter

The most installed and best rated tool in this list, with a long track record on ChatGPT and CSV export that few others have. ChatGPT only, and PDF export is metered on the free plan and made on their server. Best for: People who only use ChatGPT and export a PDF now and then. Store listing · Website

AI Exporter

The widest list of supported AI sites, plus Notion sync and versions for Edge and Firefox. Daily limits on PDF, Word and Notion on the free plan, and PDFs are made on their server. Best for: People who use many AI sites or keep their notes in Notion. Store listing · Website

Superpower for ChatGPT

A full workspace for ChatGPT: folders, search, a prompt library and frequent releases. Export is one feature of many. ChatGPT only, and the more advanced features are in the paid plan. Best for: Heavy ChatGPT users who want to organise chats inside ChatGPT, not just export them. Store listing · Website

ExportGPT

The longest format list here, including HTML, Excel and CSV. ChatGPT only; screenshot and PDF exports go through their server. Best for: People who need a ChatGPT chat as a spreadsheet or HTML file. Store listing · Website

AI Toolbox

Folders, prompts and advanced search across four services, with a searchable local copy of your chats. Needs a login, and Markdown and PDF export are in the paid plan. Best for: People who want folders and search across several assistants and are happy to pay. Store listing · Website

Chat Memo

Saves chats automatically in the background, and covers several Chinese-language assistants the others skip. Saved chats live in the browser's own storage, not as files you can open, search or back up yourself. Best for: People who want a hands-off history inside the browser, especially for Doubao, Kimi or Qwen. Store listing · Website

YourAIScroll

Wide service list, a public changelog and roadmap, and versions for Chrome, Firefox and Edge. Downloading a file at all needs the paid plan. Best for: People who use Poe or Mistral and do not mind a subscription. Store listing · Website

AI Chat Backup

Writes Markdown straight into a local folder or Obsidian vault without a sign-in, and has a good set of guides. Each chat is saved by hand; there is no PDF or Word export and no scheduled backup. Best for: Obsidian and Notion users who save the occasional chat. Store listing · Website

XWX AI Chat Exporter

The only other tool here with scheduled backup to Markdown files, and it publishes a sample PDF you can judge. The scheduled backup needs a paid desktop app and Windows; the extension alone has daily limits. Best for: Windows users who want scheduled backups and are willing to run a desktop app. Store listing · Website

Where Backup My AI Chat fits, and where it does not

Backup My AI Chat is for people who want their AI conversations as ordinary files on their own computer: a PDF or Word file of one chat when they need it, and a folder of Markdown files that stays up to date without them thinking about it. Nothing is uploaded, nothing needs an account, and nothing is metered.

It is the wrong choice if you need any of these:

How this comparison was made

On 6 October 2026 we read each product's Chrome Web Store listing and its own website, including the pricing page where there was one, and recorded what they state. We did not install and test the other nine extensions, so this table compares published claims, not measured behaviour. Where a product's pages did not say something, the table says "not stated" and we did not guess.
